Black Jack Campground is nestled among pine and eucalyptus trees near 2,097-foot Mt. Orizaba, Catalina Island’s highest peak. Situated several miles from both Avalon and Two Harbors, Black Jack offers a tranquil camping experience in the island’s interior. The campground is 1,600 feet above sea level and offers eleven sites with sweeping views of rolling terrain all the way down to the ocean.

Black Jack Campground trail head is 9 miles from Avalon and 11.8 miles from Two Harbors. It’s accessible either on foot or by taking the Airport Shuttle from Avalon, or the Safari Bus. Once at the trail head, it is a 1.5-mile moderate hike into the campground.

KAYAK RENTALS

Include: Open deck (sit-on-top) Kayak, PFD & Aquabound Paddle. Many of these kayaks we rent for camping are no longer in production, we keep them just for kayak campers. There are a limited number in our fleet, so reservations are required. Kayaks are easy to paddle, can carry all your equipment, are easy to haul ashore in just about any island nook for a rest stop or opportunity to snorkel. Even novice paddler’s will find the paddling an easy challenge.

DELIVERY & CAMPING GEAR

We can also deliver kayaks, dry bags, camping equipment, etc. rented from us to Two Harbors via truck or truck and trailer. If you plan to start in Avalon, with a group of six or less, our custom 25′ kayak-charter boat “Ama” is available to drop you, your gear and kayaks anywhere on the island. Summer camp on Catalina Island is a great way to spend the summer. Wonderful memories and new friends await at Catalina Sea Camp, one of California’s premier overnight summer camps.

Hermit Gulch Campground is Avalon’s only camping facility located within city limits. The campground is situated in Avalon Canyon near the Nature Center and the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Garden.

The campground offers a nice view of the surrounding hills that are home to a wide variety of endemic plant and animal species. Hermit Gulch Trail is accessible from the campground, and there’s access to other hiking trails nearby.

Hermit Gulch is great for first-timers and experienced campers alike. Being so close to town allows easy access to groceries, shopping, restaurants, tours, sight seeing and nightlife.

Hermit Gulch is a self service campground. We have tent cabins available which consist of a wooden platform with a canvas tent on top. Each tent cabin will have 6 army cots inside and comes with a 2 burner propane stove and a lantern. If renting a tent site please bring a tent and sleeping bag.

Charcoal, Duraflame logs, and propane are available at Vons and/or Chet’s Hardware Store. We encourage campers to purchase bottled water from the store prior to arriving at the campground.

Amenities include: picnic tables & BBQ stands at each campsite and tent cabin, lighted restrooms with flush toilets, outdoor kitchen style sinks, potable water, coin operated showers and lockers (quarters only) and vending machines.

Little Harbor is accessible from either Two Harbors (25 min) or Avalon (1.5 hrs) by the Safari Bus or by biking or hiking a strenuous trail along an unpaved road. The Safari Bus is a paid service and baggage space is strictly limited to one lap item (included with ticket) and two larger items (37x23x23) per passenger. For excess baggage, gear haul truck is available from Two Harbors for a fee. Safari bus reservations should be made at time of campsite booking. Discover Catalina! Mountain & Sea Adventures (MSA) has been serving families and youth for 20 years providing safe and educational experiences on Catalina Island. Summer camp with MSA is a true adventure as you live aboard our 112’ floating camp, which visits several coves around the island each session! Parsons Landing is a secluded beach campground located seven miles west of the village of Two Harbors. The eight primitive sites accommodate up to eight people each and are accessible only by a moderately difficult seven-mile hike from Two Harbors or a two-and-a-half-mile hike from Emerald Bay. You can also kayak to the campground. Shade structures and running water are not provided; you must pack in your supplies.

Amenities include: BBQ & fire Ring, Picnic Table, Chemical Toilets, Water & Firewood. Guests must purchase at least one locker key with their reservation. Each locker contains one bundle of firewood and 2.5 gallons of water. Additional lockers are available by advance purchase only.
